Artist's Description

Painted in 1926. L. A. Ramsey was known to have painted the Grand Tetons as early as 1924 and as late as 1940, the year before he died. He usually painted the Tetons with their accompanying rivers and lakes, particularly Jenny Lake. Once during the first part of the Great Depression, Mr. Ramsey had just come from a sketching trip at the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. A friend was talking about the terrible economic depression that was going on. Mr. Ramsey said, "What depression? I've just come from the Tetons and there isn't any depression there." Although he probably knew of the Great Depression, and understood its seriousness, the beauty of the Tetons seemed to make all these problems vanish.
